Guide to Animal Rights
We can say that animals and human beings have some similarities in the sense that they have consciousness and they are also very responsive. Animals have their differences, and they are unique in their own ways, and many pet owners would tell you that each respond differently and they need care and protection too. There are people who think that animals cannot feel pain or because their intelligence is lower than human beings that they should not be given the care and nourishment that most pet owners generously give to them.
Animals deserve life, and there are some groups that do not give these rights and privileges to them. Some groups believe that humans should be above all animals and there is a moral distinction between them. Lastly are those people who believe that animals cannot feel, sense, or experience the same things that a human can and that an animal should not be given the same status as a human. These beliefs came from a faulty sense of righteousness and entitlements. If people will just overcome their biases, then it all boils that to animals having their own rights in this world.
Animals should also be given the right to live in a clean and safe place. We all know humans have this kind of behavior to destroy the natural world like what they do to lush rainforests which soon becomes flat lands and rich coral reefs are turned into ocean wastelands. Humans who destroy the natural ecosystem for their own gain are guilty of depriving animals a basic right to have a clean and safe home. This is the reason why the green movement is also closely linked with the animal rights movement.
There are animals or animal parts that are being used for products that is to be sold in the market and this is one display of human greed that is gaining popularity. Economic incentive makes this people think that it is alright to kill animals for the sake of gain. For example, elephants are killed for their tusks, sharks are killed for their fins, and other people who kill animals because of the commodity they get from it. They are disregarding the basic rights of animals to live in exchange for the dollar sign. Since animals have a right to live free of suffering at the hands of humans, it is important that we consider viable alternatives to animal products.
Animal rights activists are very strong in what they believe in. Below are some of these rights that animals rights advocates believe in.
Animals are conscious beings, not machines or objects. Animals also have interests. Animals interests should be respected by human beings. Human beings should not exploit animals. If humans treat animals as objects then they are violating animal rights. Killing animals is depriving animals of their right to live.
It takes volumes to really cover the scope of animals rights.
